The RIIWHS204E – Work safely at heights (Release 1) is the latest nationally accredited unit of competency for individuals who are working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

How is the course delivered?

Training is delivered via Blended (Online distance learning + Face-to-face training and assessment).

Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed 2 days with pre-course learning

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend approximately 11 hours depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

What will you learn?

This course is designed to develop your expertise in working safely at heights. Among others, you will learn to:

  • Identify work requirements
  • Identify work procedures and instructions
  • Access and install equipment
  • Perform work at heights
  • Clean up work area

How is the course structured?

All learners will be assessed through:

  • Observation during role play/simulation
  • Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview
  • Structured Activities may include Projects, Case studies, presentations, role play, demonstration, progressive tasks

What are the entry requirements?

At the time of enrolment, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Are 18 years of age and over
  • Living or working in Australia
  • Have at least Year 10 English proficiency level, or equivalent, and basic numeracy skills*
  • Have basic computer skills
  • Have good general health and fitness for practicals (handling tools and equipment)
  • Ability to handle tools and equipment, and in good mental health condition to work comfortably while positioned at a significant height (not acrophobic)

*Learners who do not meet the LLN requirements of the course may still enrol into the course provided the enrolment has been endorsed by the trainer and corresponding additional support strategies have been put in place. Please see ‘Delivery Arrangements’ section of this document for more information.
